Calling All Content Creators in the RGV

One mans call for like minded content creatives

Hello! Welcome! Feel free to grab a coffee, a tea, or any comfort drink of your choice. This blog is meant to be a fun read, and an informative blog about the current creative scene in the RGV. Specifically in Harlingen, TX as a homebase. My job? To interview artists, do research in different mediums/art forms (so you don’t have to), and write monthly about it all for you to enjoy.  So relax, take a sip of that tea/coffee/beverage, and let us dive into The RGV’s Creators Guild.

Our first artist is a local freelance photographer, film maker, and video editor named Marco. Marco is a 20 year old aspiring cinematographer from Harlingen, Tx. He dreams of directing behind the camera for films and cinema work.

Completely self taught, Marco learned the majority of what he knows about the film making process, through YouTube. As a 5th grader he used to love playing director, which sparked his passion for being behind the camera.  In 12th grade, He posted his first work, marking the beginning of his 3 years of content creating.

He is mainly inspired by Wes Anderson films, color grading, and the whole process of action cinematography. Marco is currently focusing only on creating content for himself and working for others.

He does do commission work in a package deal behind the camera, directing, video editing, and more. His advice to new filmmakers and content creators:

“Just publish your work! Doesn’t matter if its good or not. Get your work out there and accept criticism. Criticism will make you better in the long run, and the sooner you accept it, the faster you’ll get better. and keep practicing everyday. even if it’s little things like Instagram reels. Never stop learning new tricks.”

A Local Call for Content Creators in the RGV

On May 19th of this year, Marco posted a video calling all content creators of the RGV to meet up at Girl Of All Trades, a local coffee shop in downtown Harlingen. I was immediately intrigued and completely ecstatic for the meetup. I had messaged him prior, if I had the okay to interview him at the meetup. He agreed happily. On the day of the meetup we had the interview and then after we took videos/pictures of Art night. Even thought was him and I at the meetup, we were able to met other photographers/filmmakers in the wild, enjoying the event in their own creative time.

It was fun to meet and talk to everyone about what they love, as hobbyists or working professionals. whether it be creating content or expressing creative freedom from behind the lens, we all had something to pitch in and say.

I recommend, branch out and talk to people, make connections, make memories and build a portfolio, and explore creativity.

Marco Recommends for everyone wanting to start off photography or film work:

  • A Good quality camera

  • A good quality lens

  • Good audio equipment (suited for your own content)

    • lavalier mics

    • shot gun microphones

    • whatever you can afford that suits your creative needs
